Teenagers Part 2

Writing from Friday 03-05-10

So... Friday I had some time to gather my thoughts and calm down over the situation.

I called the principal. Left a message, of course and waited. Once he called back, we had a really nice conversation. I was informed how luck my son was, he didn't get arrested. As well, he had some great people on his side who were able to convince the principal to be ok with a stipulated expulsion and allow Nathaniel back in school. However, it wasn't up to him. I still had to go through the Head of pupil Services for approval. It is up to the district.

And now it is off to a phone call to them...Another message and more waiting. I decided that I would call some teachers and ask for their assistance with some letters of recommendation, or character letters more like it.

And now we wait..And I stew and I get more and more angry at the thought of random backpack searches without any probable cause. I keep telling myself to focus on the goal of keeping him in school and worry about this if you really have to fight.

No the weekend wait begins....

Teenagers Part 1

Writing from Thursday March 4th

Today I was called to pick my son up from school. He had a knife in his backpack...Of all thing to not know you had with you! Grounds for immediate expulsion.
I went completely prepared to ream him up one end and down the other. And then I got there and saw him and knew that it was a complete mistake and he really did not realize it was there. He put it there over the weekend when he went somewhere and simply forgot to take it out.
He left his backpack on a lunch table while helping with an assemble and the school security picked it up and went through it. Of all days and all backpacks...
Initially it was just a suspension and then I was called to say he was being referred for expulsion.
That was really hard to deal with. I have a young 14 year old sophomore in High School, taking him away from a good group of friends he has had for years was just not an option. He has good grades, plays sports and has never been in trouble.
And so...We decide to fight it!!!!

I called an old coach from when I went to school there, now the activities director. He know Nathaniel pretty well and was going to speak to the Principal on his behalf.

And now we wait for tomorrow to see what happens when I speak witht he Principal..
boy I hated high school.

Although, i have to agree, he was completely in the wrong and does deserve a punishment.

Alarming number 1 in 4 12 year olds are sexually active. One in Four, 25%.....Amazing!
Schools teach sex ed in junior high, they have also started teaching abstinence classes. But at this rate, 25% of our pre-teens are having sex before abstinence or sex ed can be taught.
But then sex sells...and in America, we are all about the bottom dollar. Ultimately, it is our children who suffer.
Underwear..The "unseen" clothing has become so sexualized..Are we supposed to think this is how we will look if we buy their product?

Mainstream media has helped our children to be desensitized where sex is concerned.

Sex today has no true meaning. The lines are all blurred. What is it really all about anyway? We are teaching our children that sex has no meaning. If there is no meaning attached, why wait? Sex is everywhere....Even in food.

It's no wonder 25% of our 12 year olds are having sex. Look what we feed them all day long.

It's no longer enough to teach your children to wait, send them out into the world and HOPE you did a good job. We need to take action. Someone needs to know that the acceptance of the commercialization of sex is ruining our youth.

The bottom dollar for a company is nowhere near as important as allowing our children to grow up to be children. To enjoy their youth for as long as possible. Once you head down the road to sex, there really is no turning back. It's not something you can take back or do over.

I don't expect my children to wait until marriage this day in age. I do hope and pray every day that they at least wait until they are out of high school. This day in age, we should be praying they wait until Junior High is over. That's a sad place to be.

Introduction

This blog is just me. My thoughts and views on the world, and of course, my opinion on how it should be different, BETTER.

There are so many things wrong in the world we live in, things we have allowed ourselves to see as normal. And of course, me being me, I have an opinion about all of it.
I don't expect you to agree with me, or necessarily even like what I have to say. I do hope I get you to think. Think outside of your box, of our box, of the box the world has created for us.
To think of ways to make things better and believe that you can make a difference. Even the smallest difference is a step in the right direction.
Baby steps to create an environment we can be proud of and hand off to our children.
Happy reading...Happy thinking!!!!
